David Root, Superintendent of Williamsville-Sherman School District, passed away on September 7, 2016 after being diagnosed with leukemia, leaving behind his wife Julie and two children.

Root's education career included teaching and coaching in Williamsville, serving as K-12 principal and Athletic Director in Greenview, and principal at Athens High School before becoming Superintendent in 2007.

As Superintendent, Root stabilized the district during challenging financial times through his budgeting expertise and served as a mentor and leader to staff and community members.

Root worked to establish Williamsville-Sherman School District as one of the best in Illinois while maintaining a commitment to student achievement and potential.

The Illinois House of Representatives expresses condolences to Root's family, friends, and the Williamsville-Sherman community, with a suitable copy of the resolution to be presented to his family.
