Illinois House of Representatives mourns the death of Samuel Frye Burrell, who passed away on September 28, 2016.

Burrell was born September 18, 1938, in Panola, Alabama; served in the U.S. Army as a paramedic and completed training at Fort Benning and Fort Sam Houston.

Worked as a Chicago Transit Authority bus operator, earned certifications in electrical engineering and became a Master Mechanic, Electrician, and Locomotive Engineer; founded Fuller-Burrell Electric in 2002.

Served as Alderman of Chicago's 29th Ward from 1990 to 1999 and founded the United Voter Registration League, which registered over 50,000 voters for the 1992 presidential election.

Survived by his wife of 50 years (Rosie L. Key), three daughters, three sons, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members.
