Alice Martin, age 75, passed away; the Illinois House of Representatives expresses condolences to her family and friends.

Graduated from Alton High School in 1960 and attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; worked 25 years for the Illinois Department of Public Health at Alton Mental Health Center as a mental health technician.

Served as Ward 4 Alton city alderwoman for 10 years beginning March 22, 2006, becoming the first alderwoman on Alton City Council since 1987; was elected to a four-year term in 2009 and re-elected in 2013.

Focused on infrastructure improvements including sidewalks, streets, and parks in her inner-city ward; helped institute bans on dogs in Hellrung Park and James H. Killion Park at Salu for safety reasons.

Active in Democratic politics as Precinct Committeewoman and member of AFSCME Local 124, Illinois Association of Minorities in Government, Illinois Democratic Women, and Southern Illinois Democratic Women Network.
