Illinois House of Representatives honors the life and memory of Iberia Beatrice Hampton, who died on October 16, 2016 at age 94.

Hampton was born February 5, 1922 in Haynesville, Louisiana and moved to the Chicago area in the 1930s; she later settled in Maywood in 1958.

Worked at Corn Products Refining Company starting in 1956 in quality control and served as a union steward.

Became known for hosting activists, entertainers, and politicians at her home following the December 4, 1969 assassination of her son Fred; her kitchen was a center for political and philosophical discussions.

House directs that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Hampton's family as an expression of sympathy.
