Congressman Rush was born in Albany, Georgia on November 23, 1946 and moved to Chicago at age 7; holds degrees from Roosevelt University (Bachelor of General Studies, 1973), University of Illinois at Chicago (Master of Arts in Political Science, 1974), and McCormick Theological Seminary (Master of Theology, 1978)

Congressman Rush has represented Illinois's 1st Congressional District since 1993 and brought over one billion dollars to the district through infrastructure projects, grants for libraries, museums, hospitals, schools, and arts programs

Congressman Rush is an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, an ordained minister, and pastor of the Beloved Community Christian Church of God in Christ in Chicago
