IL SB0040

Amends the Illinois Township Code Section 27-5 to remove population and size restrictions for discontinuing township organizations.

Eliminates the requirement that a township must be located within a county with a population of 3 million or more to qualify for discontinuation.

Eliminates the requirement that a township must contain a territory of 7 square miles or more to qualify for discontinuation.

Applies only to townships within a coterminous or substantially coterminous municipality where the city council exercises township powers or municipal officials serve as township officers.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
