SB0325 Summary: Mahomet Aquifer Protection Task Force Act

• Creates the Mahomet Aquifer Protection Task Force to address clean drinking water maintenance for the principal aquifer in east-central Illinois.

• Task Force comprises 28 members including legislators, state agency representatives, environmental organizations, local governments, industry groups, and university researchers appointed by the Governor, legislative leaders, and agency directors.

• Requires the Task Force to conduct a study identifying contamination threats, developing a state groundwater quality plan, proposing protection actions, and making legislative recommendations.

• Task Force must submit findings and recommendations to the General Assembly and Governor by July 1, 2017.

• Act expires and is repealed on October 1, 2017; members serve without compensation and receive administrative support from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
