• Municipalities operating waterworks systems may collect a lead hazard cost recovery fee from water users to comply with lead testing and mitigation requirements under the Illinois Plumbing License Law.

• School districts must test drinking water in buildings constructed before January 1, 2000 for lead contamination, notify parents of results exceeding 5 parts per billion, and may use fire prevention/safety funds for lead sampling and mitigation.

• Licensed day care facilities constructed before January 1, 2000 must comply with Department of Public Health rules for testing lead levels in water and notifying parents of results.

• Community water system operators must develop and annually submit water distribution system material inventories identifying total service lines and known lead service lines, and provide notice to residents before construction or repair work on water mains or service lines.

• Investor-owned water utilities may recover reasonable costs for lead compliance under Section 35.5 of the Illinois Plumbing License Law through rate adjustments approved by the Public Utilities Commission.
