SB0637 Summary

• Beginning July 1, 2017, the Secretary of State shall refuse to issue an Illinois Identification Card to any person who has been issued a driver's license; persons may surrender their driver's license to become eligible for an identification card.

• Beginning July 1, 2017, all applicants for standard Illinois Identification Cards and Illinois Person with a Disability Identification Cards must provide proof of lawful status in the United States as defined in 6 CFR 37.3; applicants unable to provide such proof are ineligible.

• Beginning July 1, 2017, driver's license applicants must provide proof of lawful status in the United States; applicants without proof may apply for a driver's license under Section 6-105.1.

• Beginning July 1, 2017, the Secretary of State shall refuse to issue a driver's license to any person who has been issued an identification card under the Illinois Identification Card Act; persons may surrender the identification card to become eligible for a driver's license.

• Illinois Person with a Disability Identification Cards issued on or after July 1, 2017 shall expire 8 years after issuance (reduced from 10 years); identification cards issued to seniors on or after July 1, 2017 shall expire 8 years after issuance (changed from permanent).
