SB1362 Summary

• Each county Administrator must post on their website all locations that impound dogs and cats, along with operating hours, contact information, and applicable redemption fees to increase redemptions of lost or missing animals.

• Impounded dogs and cats must be scanned for microchips and examined for identification within 24 hours of intake, with attempts to contact owners via mail, phone, email, and secondary microchip contacts before adoption or euthanization.

• Animal control facilities must scan animals again before transfer or euthanization, and may only proceed if the second scan matches the initial scan and the owner has not been located or refuses reclaim.

• Vicious dogs and dangerous wild animals must be listed in a database maintained by the Administrator or Director, including owner name, current address, contact information, and other pertinent details.

• The vicious animal database must be made available to first responders (fire departments, law enforcement, emergency medical responders, and emergency management officials) to alert them before responding to calls at locations with dangerous animals.
