• Requires group and individual major medical accident and health insurance policies and managed care plans issued, amended, delivered, or renewed on or after the bill's effective date to provide coverage and reimbursement for treatment of mitochondrial disease.

• Coverage must include vitamin and nutritional supplements such as coenzyme Q10, vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin B-1, vitamin B-2, vitamin K-1, and L-carnitine.

• Applies requirements to state employee health benefits, county self-insured health plans, municipality self-insured health plans, school employee health benefits, health maintenance organizations, limited health service organizations, and voluntary health services plans.

• Makes conforming amendments to the State Employees Group Insurance Act of 1971, Counties Code, Illinois Municipal Code, School Code, Health Maintenance Organization Act, Limited Health Services Organization Act, and Voluntary Health Services Plans Act.
