IL SB1522

Amends the Illinois Insurance Code to require payment for services rendered by registered surgical assistants who are independent contractors (not employed by hospitals or ambulatory surgical treatment centers) at the appropriate non-physician modifier rate.

Establishes that payment should be made at the same rate a payor would have paid had the same services been provided by a physician, with the non-physician modifier applied.

Adds conforming provisions to the Registered Surgical Assistant and Registered Surgical Technologist Title Protection Act (225 ILCS 130/47) mirroring the insurance code requirements.

Applies to registered surgical assistants as defined under the Registered Surgical Assistant and Registered Surgical Technologist Title Protection Act.
