SB1550 Summary

• Expands reporting requirements for attacks on school personnel to include aggravated battery, assault, aggravated assault, criminal sexual assault, and criminal homicide, requiring principals to report immediately to local law enforcement.

• Shifts responsibility for reporting firearms, drugs, and attacks on personnel from schools directly to the Department of State Police to instead having local law enforcement authorities report annually by March 1 to the Illinois Uniform Crime Reporting Program.

• Creates new requirement for principals of all public and private elementary and secondary schools to report incidents of intimidation to local law enforcement authorities.

• Adds "drug paraphernalia" to the definition of "drug" for purposes of school drug incident reporting requirements.

• Removes provisions requiring the State Board of Education to compile and publicly release school district-level data on attacks on personnel, firearms incidents, and drug-related incidents.
