IL SB1889

Amends the Criminal Code to add "transit employee" to the list of protected individuals under aggravated assault laws in Section 12-2.

Makes aggravated assault of a transit employee a Class 4 felony if a Category I, Category II, or Category III weapon is used and the employee is performing official duties, being assaulted to prevent performance of duties, or assaulted in retaliation for performing duties.

Makes aggravated assault of a transit employee a Class 4 felony if a firearm is used (other than by discharging it) under the same three circumstances related to official duties.

Removes duplicate language that previously listed "transit employee performing his or her official duties" separately from "transit passenger" in the victim classification section.

Changes reference from "the Air Rifle Act" to "Section 24.8-0.1 of this Act" for defining air rifles in the assault statute.
