Department of Transportation must adopt rules governing corrosion prevention projects on eligible bridges, including bridges funded by municipalities, public-private partnerships, the State, or federal government.

Rules must require industry-trained and certified personnel (protective coatings specialists and inspectors) to carry out corrosion prevention work according to adopted industry standards.

Rules must include a plan to prevent environmental degradation from corrosion prevention methods, with particular attention to careful handling and containment of hazardous materials such as lead paint.

Department must consult with corrosion industry experts to approve training and certification standards for personnel carrying out corrosion prevention and mitigation work.

"Industry trained and certified" is defined as completion of a Department of Labor certified apprenticeship program or certification from a corrosion prevention credentialing organization recognized by the Department.
