IL SB2168

Allows school boards in districts with boundaries spanning 3 counties (where one county has a population exceeding 1,000,000) to appoint a chief executive officer to serve as superintendent by majority vote of full board membership.

Chief executive officer must have recognized administrative ability and management experience, be responsible for district management, and possess all powers and duties of a superintendent under Illinois School Code.

Chief executive officer is exempt from the requirements of Section 21B-15 of the School Code.

Permits superintendent or chief executive officer contracts for periods not exceeding one year or performance-based contracts not exceeding 5 years, with performance-based contracts linked to student performance and academic improvement.

Changes "less" to "fewer" in reference to teacher requirements for districts needing to employ a superintendent or chief executive officer.
