IL SB2245

Requires all insurers offering group or individual accident and health insurance, managed care plans, or qualified health plans through the health insurance marketplace in Illinois to provide coverage for eating disorder treatment based on medical necessity.

Defines "eating disorder" to include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, pica, rumination disorder, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder, other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED), and any other eating disorder in the most recent Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association.

Coverage for eating disorder treatment must be consistent with mental health parity requirements under Section 370c.1 of the Illinois Insurance Code.

Applies to policies amended, delivered, issued, or renewed on or after the effective date of the 99th General Assembly (2016).

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
