SB2460 - Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Care

• Expands trauma center designations from 2 levels to 3 levels, adding Level III Trauma Centers alongside existing Level I and II centers, with corresponding minimum standards established by the Department of Public Health.

• Creates new "Acute Injury Stabilization Center" designation for facilities with basic or comprehensive emergency departments capable of initial management and transfer of acutely injured patients, with authority for the Department to impose fines on non-compliant centers.

• Extends trauma center designation renewal period from every 2 years to every 4 years, requiring on-site inspections and compliance with renewal standards.

• Establishes pediatric emergency and critical care advisory council to make recommendations for pediatric care needs and designates hospitals meeting Department standards for pediatric emergency and critical care capabilities.

• Amends Freedom of Information Act to exempt from disclosure certain information received by the Department relating to trauma centers under Section 3.90 of the EMS Systems Act; adds burn care medical representative to State Trauma Advisory Council membership.

• Takes effect 270 days after becoming law.
