Beginning with the next registration year after this act's effective date when the Secretary of State distributes newly designed standard registration plates, newly registered motor vehicles shall receive only one registration plate instead of two.

The single registration plate shall be attached to the rear of the motor vehicle instead of to both the front and rear.

References to "plates" in plural in existing laws or rules shall be deemed to refer to the single registration plate required under this amendment.

The changes apply to section 1-171 (registration stickers), section 3-412 (registration plates furnished), and section 3-413 (display of registration plates) of the Illinois Vehicle Code.
