Circuit court hearing for annexation petitions must be scheduled 20-30 days after the petition or ordinance is filed with the circuit court clerk.

Notice of annexation must be published in newspapers 15-30 days before the hearing and must include municipal property tax rates and known utility rates/fees when annexing unincorporated residential property.

Municipal clerk must send registered mail notice to highway commissioners of road districts in the annexation territory, with the municipality reimbursing road districts for any losses caused by failure to provide notice.

A $10 filing and service fee must be paid to the circuit court clerk before any annexation petition or ordinance can be filed.

State-owned real estate or institutions can be annexed only with written consent of the Governor or relevant state agency, without requiring standard petition procedures.
