Rail carriers operating in Lake, DuPage, Kane, McHenry, Cook, or Will County may comply with brush clearing requirements at railroad-highway grade crossings by removing brush, shrubbery, and trees for at least 15 feet on each side of the center line of each track and 500 feet in either direction from the roadway edge, but only at crossings equipped with electrified flashing lights, bells, and gates.

All other rail carriers in Illinois must remove brush, shrubbery, and trees from their right of way for at least 500 feet in either direction from each grade crossing as reasonably practical.

The reduced clearing distance (15 feet versus standard requirements) applies only to crossings with electrified warning devices in the six specified counties.

This Act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
