IL SB3315

Establishes the Advisory Committee on Workforce Shortages to review existing career and technical education (CTE) programs and recommend industry-recognized certification programs to address workforce gaps in Illinois.

Committee membership includes 4 legislators (one each from Senate majority/minority and House majority/minority), 1 representative each from State Board of Education, Illinois Community College Board, and Department of Employment Security, 2 CTE experts appointed by Governor, and 3 representatives from statewide professional organizations (manufacturers, health care, etc.).

Committee shall conduct thorough review of CTE programs in community colleges and secondary schools, identify industries facing workforce shortages, and recommend certification programs to address gaps while considering high unemployment areas, implementation costs, and dual-credit opportunities.

Committee must submit report to General Assembly and Governor by December 31, 2016 with recommendations for legislative changes.

Committee is automatically abolished and this section repealed on January 1, 2017.
