Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913 by 22 women at Howard University and has grown to over 250,000 members across 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters worldwide.

The sorority's mission focuses on five program areas: educational development, economic development, political awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and international awareness and involvement.

Delta Sigma Theta became a Non-Governmental Organization at the United Nations in 2003 and instituted Delta Days in 1989 as an annual legislative conference to increase member involvement in public policy-making.

Senate designates April 29, 2015 as Delta Day at the Illinois State Capitol to recognize the sorority's 102 years of service and commitment to improving Illinois communities.

The Illinois Senate commends Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for its public service contributions and directs that a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to the organization.
