Sondra Lea Hecox died on March 19, 2016 at age 79, having been born August 28, 1936 in Clarion, Iowa to parents Irvin and Freda Harmon.

Worked as Director of Personnel for the Sunbeam Corporation in Oak Park before becoming a housewife; lived in Oak Park, Elmhurst, and Saint Charles, Illinois.

Served as an elected precinct committeewoman for Saint Charles Township and secretary of the Kane County Republican Women's Organization; volunteered at Kane County Republican Headquarters for seven years organizing fundraising events.

Received President George W. Bush's Crystal Award in 2004 for volunteer efforts, was named Kane County Republican of the Year in 2004, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kane County Republican Party in 2012.

Survived by her husband Dale Hecox (married June 7, 1956), daughters Sharon Grether and Susan Sherman, one granddaughter, and three grandsons; Illinois Senate expresses condolences and directs a copy of the resolution be presented to her family.
