Eugene "Gene" Moore, former Illinois State Representative for the 7th District, passed away; he was born July 19, 1942 in Mississippi and moved to Maywood as a child.

Elected to the Illinois House in 1992 as the first African-American to represent the 7th District; sworn in January 1993 and served two terms as Proviso Township Democratic Committeeman.

Appointed Cook County Recorder of Deeds in 1999 and won election to the office by landslide; modernized the office technology, created the Property Fraud Unit with the Cook County State's Attorney and FBI, and retired in November 2012.

Served as coach and board member for multiple community organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of West Cook County, Proviso-Leyden Council on Community Action, and John C. Vaughn's Scholarship Fund.

Survived by three children, four siblings, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous family members and friends.
