Jacob Manning Schmitz, a junior at Brother Rice High School, passed away on June 13, 2016.

Schmitz was valedictorian of St. Christina (class of 2013) with a GPA over 4.7, an ACT score of 32, and was an Edmund Rice Scholar who planned to study engineering and medicine.

Served as student council secretary in 2015-2016 and was elected student council president for 2016-2017; member of National Honor Society and volunteered at Blessed Edmund Rice Camp.

Enjoyed snow skiing, jet-skiing, watersports, Michigan beaches, and traveling; earned his boating license at age 12.

Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his parents Leo Schmitz and Ellyn Weiss Schmitz, and his extended family.
