John Mahlan Stevens, born January 16, 1963, passed away on June 9, 2016.

Enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on November 29, 1982, and retired honorably in 2004 after more than 22 years of service during peacetime and combat, rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer-3.

Served as a Force Reconnaissance Marine with the 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company and participated in over 14 comprehensive intelligence gathering programs, including a United Nations-sanctioned international military commando competition.

Received numerous military awards and decorations including the Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two Gold Stars, and multiple other service medals and insignias.

The Illinois Senate expresses sympathy for the passing of John Stevens and directs that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family.
