Leroy Alphonse "Lee" Alfano passed away on June 15, 2016, at age 91.

Served as Chief of the Des Plaines Police Department for seven years and worked for the department for 30 years total before retiring in 1985.

Oversaw the investigation into serial killer John Wayne Gacy in 1978, the largest case in Des Plaines Police Department history.

Spent his retirement on a ranch in Prescott, Arizona, where he raised horses for children with special needs and was a member of the Yavapai County Mounted Sheriff's Posse.

The Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his surviving son Jerry, daughter Jody, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members.
