Illinois State Senator William Delgado represented the 2nd Senate District since joining the Illinois Senate in December 2006 as the unanimous choice to fill a vacancy.

Senator Delgado served as Chairman of the Senate Education Committee and Senate Public Health Committee, establishing himself as a strong advocate for education and health initiatives.

Delgado sponsored groundbreaking legislation requiring public schools to teach about the Mexican Repatriation of Mexican-Americans during the Great Depression (1929-mid-1940s) and supported initiatives to eliminate race-based standards in schools.

He championed legislation supporting LGBTQ rights, the Grow Your Own Teacher program, the Mobile Asthma Pilot program, prenatal and neonatal toxoplasmosis testing, and The Puerto Rico Project to assist individuals struggling with drug addiction.

The Senate honors Senator Delgado for his dedicated service to Illinois and his active involvement in community programs including Back-to-School fairs, the Walk Now for Autism event, and the Chicago Healthy Living Challenge.
