Florence Coakley died on June 29, 2016, and the Illinois Senate expresses condolences to her family and friends.

Born July 10, 1926 in Dermott, Arkansas to Eddie and Florida Hines; married Clarence Coakley on December 10, 1942.

Moved to Chicago in 1945 and worked at Curtis Candy Company and Carter's and Company, becoming known as the "Candy Store Lady" in her community.

Active member of multiple churches including Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Arkansas and several Chicago churches; served on Mother's Board and Pastor's Aid Committee.

Survived by 10 children, stepchildren, goddaughter, numerous grandchildren (95 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren), and extended family.
