Illinois Senate passes resolution mourning the death of Joe M. Williams Jr. of Rock Island, who passed away on July 9, 2016, at age 92.

Williams was born July 3, 1924, in Chickasha, Oklahoma; served in the United States Army during World War II in Japan; and graduated from Rock Island High School in 1942.

Owned and operated Sinclair and Cities Service gas stations in Moline with his family, then worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail sorter for 20 years before retiring.

Was a member of First Baptist Church in Rock Island, avid chess player and past President of the Chess Club, and devoted Chicago Cubs fan.

Survived by his wife Joan (married 65 years), three children, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one sister; Senate extends condolences to his family and friends.
