Donald W. Schroeder of Rock Island died on July 10, 2016; he was born August 28, 1935 to Wallace and Genevieve R. Timm Schroeder and married Colette Mortell on December 29, 1955.

Served as Director of Public Works for the City of Rock Island for 38 years until retirement and was a United States Navy veteran.

Active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and former member of Allouez Council 658 Knights of Columbus; participated in fast pitch and slow pitch softball competitions including national championships and Senior Olympics.

Coached basketball at Jordan Catholic School and his children's and grandchildren's sporting events; enjoyed horseback riding and showing Percherons.

Survived by his wife Colette, seven children (Thomas, Anna, Ed, Patrick, John, Kathleen, and Paul Schroeder), 20 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; preceded in death by his parents and son Michael W. Schroeder.
