Honors Matthew J. Heffernan of Tinley Park, who graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1964 and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1968, including service in Vietnam.

Recognizes his service as a Village of Tinley Park Board of Trustees member appointed in April 1998 and elected in 2001, serving as Chairman of Public Safety and Budget committees and as Mayor Pro-tem in 2006-2007.

Credits him with initiating Marine Corps Detachment #1217 in Tinley Park, serving as past First District Commandant for the Illinois Marine Corps League, and establishing a sister city relationship with Mallow, Ireland.

Notes his accomplishments including spearheading the Tinley Park seat belt ordinance, coordinating the fire department 100th anniversary memorial at Zahrocki Plaza, and enacting mutual aid legislation between fire departments.

Extends condolences from the Illinois Senate to his surviving family: wife Jenny, children Lisa and Matt, and grandchildren Tyler and Nathan.
