Mary Ann MacLean, born October 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 18, 2016.

Served on the Illinois State Museum board for 32 years as director; the Mary Ann MacLean Play Museum opened in 2011 at the Illinois State Museum site in Springfield.

Served on the Illinois State Board of Education and as trustee for multiple institutions including the Chicago Zoological Society, Chicago Botanic Garden, MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at University of Chicago Medicine, Rassias Center at Dartmouth College, and Union College.

Chicago Zoological Society dedicated the Mary Ann MacLean Conservation Leadership Center at Brookfield Zoo in 2013 for education, conservation, and outreach efforts.

Survived by husband Barry, three children (Adrian Jay, Gillian Growdon, and Duncan MacLean), two stepdaughters (Elizabeth Larned and Margaret MacLean), sister Libby Lucas, and 12 grandchildren.
