John Howard Hudson Sr. of Chicago passed away on August 21, 2016; the Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones.

Served as minister of music at Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years, which helped launch the careers of actress-singer Jennifer Hudson and other notable performers.

Worked in insurance sales and as a shoe salesman at Robson's, where he outfitted notable entertainers including Lou Rawls and comic Redd Foxx.

Operated the Hudson Funeral Home with his wife and organized a choir of over 100 singers for a special performance with Thomas A. Dorsey, the father of gospel music.

Survived by his wife Dorothy (married 48 years), three sons (John Jr., Paris, and Prentice), three grandchildren, four sisters, and four brothers.
