Illinois Senate mourns the death of Rev. James Edward Allen of Joliet, who died on September 13, 2016.

Rev. Allen was born November 30, 1931 in Canton and served 41 years as a United Methodist Church pastor in multiple Illinois communities.

Founded Joliet/Will County Project Pride in 1985 and served on boards for numerous community organizations including the Salvation Army, YMCA, Catholic Charities, American Red Cross, and Rotary Club.

Received multiple awards including the Joliet Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award, Joliet Catholic Diocese Pax Joliet Award, and induction into the Joliet/Will County Project Pride Hall of Pride.

Survived by his wife Nancy of 57 years, two children, and two grandchildren.
