Illinois Senate mourns the death of Staff Sergeant Christopher Alexander Wilbur, who died on August 12, 2016 in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Wilbur was born in Granite City on February 26, 1980, graduated from Granite City High School in 1998, and married Lindsey Angele Bishop on October 30, 2009.

He joined the U.S. Army on June 8, 2005, served with the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, and was deployed to Iraq twice (December 2005-December 2006 and September 2007-November 2008) and Afghanistan twice (January 2010-February 2011 and February 2016-August 2016).

Staff Sgt. Wilbur received numerous military honors including four Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, four Army Good Conduct Medals, two Afghanistan Campaign Medals with Campaign Star, a Combat Infantryman Badge, and an Air Assault Badge.

The Senate extends condolences to his surviving family including his wife Lindsey, two children, parents, sister, brother, and in-laws, and directs that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family.
