Served as President of the PTO at Whittier and Glenwood Elementary Schools, secretary of her bowling league, and President of the Lake County Business Woman Association Debutante Ball Committee

Authored "The Betty Chronicles" column in the Waukegan News Sun and was known for her involvement in charitable organizations

Survived by her husband of 60 years Sherman H. McKenzie Sr., sons Sherman Jr., Scott Sr., and Steve McKenzie; preceded in death by her parents and daughter Sharon

Illinois Senate expresses mourning for her passing and directs that a copy of this resolution be presented to her family
