Urges Illinois citizens to learn about groundwater and take actions to protect this vital natural resource

Recognizes that more than half of Illinois residents rely on groundwater wells for drinking water and that groundwater supports agricultural irrigation and rural ecosystems

Notes that abandoned wells must be properly sealed within 30 days under the Illinois Water Well Construction Code to prevent contamination of aquifers

Encourages the Illinois Department of Public Health and local governments to identify abandoned wells, educate communities about well inspection policies, and support well sealing efforts
