Glen Barton of Peoria died on October 24, 2016; he was born August 20, 1939 in Alton, Missouri to Albert Lee and Jessie Eugenia Smith-Barton.

Earned a civil engineering degree from the University of Missouri in 1961 and worked at Caterpillar, retiring as Chairman and CEO in 2004.

As CEO, promoted safety initiatives and Six Sigma quality improvements; was instrumental in creating the National Mining Association and Caterpillar's "Common Ground" educational program.

Received numerous honors including induction into the Order of the British Empire, National Mining Hall of Fame, and University of Missouri Honor Award for Distinguished Service in Engineering in 1999.

Made significant philanthropic contributions to Peoria community institutions including the Red Cross, WTVP, Riverfront Museum, Glen Oak Park, OSF Hospice, and UNICOMP Cancer Center; is survived by his wife Polly, four children, nine grandchildren, and two siblings.
