Wayne L. Meece of Normal passed away on October 16, 2016, and the Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his family and friends.

Born September 23, 1934 in Monticello to James Elmer and Anna Willis Meece; served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne from 1954 to 1957; graduated from Illinois State University in 1960 as an All American quarterback.

Served as a Big Ten head linesman for 20 years and officiated five major college bowl games including the Rose Bowl (1986, 1990), Tangerine Bowl (1978), Liberty Bowl (1983), and Peach Bowl (1991).

Member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and inducted into Illinois State University Hall of Fame in 1974; served as observer for ISU athletics for 25 years; received the Stretch Miller Award from ISU in October 2010.

Survived by wife Loretta Powell (married October 23, 1964), three children, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two sisters; was a long-time member and lead usher at Eastview Christian Church.
