Granite City Works steel mill has operated since 1878 and was owned by United States Steel Corporation with an annual raw steelmaking capability of 2.8 million net tons.

Operations at Granite City Works were suspended in early 2016, resulting in over 1,600 job losses, with U.S. Steel stating no timeline exists to restart production.

Urges the President of the United States and Congress to require only American-made steel in any national infrastructure plan signed into law.

Urges the President and Congress to implement trade and economic policies to protect the American steel industry and minimize financial impact on affected workers.

Directs copies of the resolution be sent to the President, Vice-President, Congressional leadership, and the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
