Illinois Senate mourns the death of Angel Melendez of Zion, who passed away on November 11, 2016.

Angel Melendez was born December 20, 1951 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico; graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1969; served two years in the United States Marine Corps with an honorable discharge, followed by four years in the Marine Corps Reserve.

Melendez worked for the Veterans Administration of North Chicago and the Ann Kiley Center, receiving the Veterans Administration Performance Award and a Certificate of Nomination from the American Legion; he was an AMVETS Life Member.

Melendez is survived by his wife Anna Maria (Nieves) Melendez; four children; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother Ana; and five siblings.

Senate expresses sincere condolences to Melendez's family, friends, and all who knew him, and directs a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to his family.
