Illinois Senate mourns the death of John Dale Stobbs, who died on November 23, 2016, and extends condolences to his family and loved ones.

Stobbs was born November 28, 1932, in Alton; graduated from Marquette High School where he was class president and served as national president of Junior Achievement; earned undergraduate and law degrees from Saint Louis University in 1956 and a Master of Laws from Georgetown University in 1958.

Served as a Colonel in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps until retirement in 1989; worked for the Department of Justice as a trial attorney with a case reaching the U.S. Supreme Court; practiced law in Alton for over 50 years as partner in the Stobbs and Sinclair Law Firm.

Served as special Assistant State's Attorney under Raleigh Griffith in the early 1970s prosecuting corruption cases with a perfect record of 14 convictions and no losses; held memberships in the American Legion, state and federal bar associations, Illinois Appellate Lawyers Association (Vice-President), and American Trial Lawyers Association.

Survived by wife Mary, six children, 15 grandchildren, and sister Janice Brown; a suitable copy of the resolution will be presented to his family.
