HB0265 Summary: Lead in Schools Reporting Act

• Department of Public Health shall conduct annual lead testing at all Chicago public school facilities, testing for lead in paint, dust, soil, and water using Department-approved lead inspectors.

• Lead testing results must be transmitted to the State Board of Education and included in school report cards for districts with populations exceeding 500,000 (Chicago Public Schools).

• Department must notify State Board of Education if detected lead levels meet or exceed unsafe levels as determined by the Department, including current federal action levels for drinking water.

• Students may transfer from one attendance center to another within or outside the district if lead levels at their current school are deemed unsafe by the Department of Public Health.

• School report cards must include lead testing results and whether any lead levels meet unsafe thresholds for districts under Article 34 of the School Code.
