IL HB0266

Creates a new subsection (c-5) in the School Code allowing parents or guardians to request that their student not be assessed on State assessments, and prohibits the State Board of Education from assessing students whose parents make such a request.

Requires the State Board of Education to develop a form for parents to request opt-out from State assessments and mandates that school districts distribute this form to their students.

Students who are not assessed due to a parent opt-out request may still receive a regular high school diploma, similar to students exempted for other specified reasons (IEP determination, English learners in U.S. less than 12 months, etc.).

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
