HB0321 Summary

• Repeals Section 11-208.6 of the Illinois Vehicle Code, which authorized automated traffic law enforcement systems (red light cameras) at intersections to photograph vehicles failing to stop at red lights.

• Denies home rule powers to municipalities and counties, explicitly prohibiting them from enacting or enforcing ordinances for automated traffic law enforcement systems that use cameras to enforce traffic signal violations under Section 11-306.

• Makes conforming changes to related Vehicle Code sections (1-105.2, 3-400, 6-306.5, 11-208, 11-208.3, and 11-208.8) to remove references to the repealed red light camera enforcement provisions.

• Adds Section 8.41 to the State Mandates Act to clarify that no state reimbursement is required for implementation of changes made by this bill.
