IL HB0496

Amends Article 27 of the Township Code to expand applicability from townships in counties with 3 million or more population to all townships within coterminous or substantially coterminous municipalities.

Removes the requirement that a township contain 7 square miles or more territory to be eligible for discontinuance under Article 27.

Eliminates the condition that the city council must exercise township board powers or that municipal officials serve as township officers or trustees.

Repeals Article 28 of the Township Code entirely.

Takes effect upon becoming law.
