School districts may contract with commercial driver training schools to provide driver education course instruction without requiring a modification or waiver of State Board of Education administrative rules.

If a district contracts with a commercial driver training school, it must provide evidence that the school holds a license issued by the Secretary of State under Article IV of Chapter 6 of the Illinois Vehicle Code.

The State Board of Education may allow up to 5 clock hours of alternative practice driving instruction in place of the required 6 clock hours of practice driving in a dual control car, if determined to be equivalent.

School districts may adopt a policy permitting proficiency examinations for the practice driving portion of driver education courses after completion of 3 hours of direct individual instruction.

The bill takes effect immediately.
