• Requires 3 of 8 State Board of Education members to represent the educator community, with one from each regional appointment category (non-Cook/contiguous counties, Cook County, and contiguous counties).

• Restricts educator community members from employment as district superintendents, principals, school business officials, or teachers, with no more than one member per school district or school.

• Removes existing prohibitions on State Board members being gainfully employed or administratively connected with school systems, allowing educators to serve while maintaining new restrictions on roles and affiliations.

• Applies new educator representation requirements only to appointments made after the effective date of the Act.

• Removes language preventing State Board members from being school board members while maintaining restrictions on interests in higher education institutions and technical institutions within Illinois.
